Bring
new life to old tools!
The DAN or Data Access Network is a newly emerging "best
practice" for passive monitoring of mission critical
networks that solves real access problems, improves network
performance and uptime, and saves capital, operation and
maintenance costs. A DAN is a combination of out-of-band data
access switching plus passive monitoring instrumentation to
enable required security, compliance, forensics review,
application performance, VoIP QoS, uptime and other network
management tasks. Data is acquired from multiple SPAN ports or
taps and multicast to multiple tools, aggregated to a few
consolidated tools, and filtered or divided across many
instances of the same tools. This Podcast recommends the DAN as
a solution to those who suffer real problems like too many tools
and not enough span ports, too many links to monitor and not
enough money to deploy distributed tools, or too much traffic
that threatens to overflow even the highest capacity tool.

GigaVUE-MP
Engineers' Choice - Engineers supporting the Event Network (eNet) for Interop Las Vegas 2005 recently handpicked GigaVUE-MP, our Data-Access Switch for "Out-of-Band" monitoring, to enable end-to-end intrusion detection and application performance analysis, putting us to the ultimate test.
Summary of Product Features:
- Remotely Managed Connectivity
- Supporting
up to 20 input or tool ports (10/100/1000 UTP or GigE fiber) for
bidirectional links or "out-of-band" network monitoring,
analysis or security surveillance tools.
- Any to Any
(Direct traffic from any link to any
tool; can merge Tx/Rx into a single tool interface)
- Many to One
(Deliver "Network View"
and aggregate traffic from multiple links into one tool)
- One to Many
(Multicast copies of singular or
aggregated traffic stream to multiple tools)
- Packet Level Filtering
- Dynamic bit-mask filtering to
remove non-relevant traffic in order to reduce processing overhead
on attached tools and to enable bandwidth-efficient multi-link
aggregation.
- Backflow Support
- Can safely insert TCP Reset
packets, SNMP commands or test traffic initiated by attached tools
into traffic stream without collisions.
- Fault Tolerant Design
- Production
links protected at all time (for copper, relay closes if power
fails; for fiber, optical switch remains connection)
- Modularized Design
- Install once, and never have to
touch any links again; can add, remove, migrate or reconfigure
tools at-will without impacting network.
- GigaVUE-MP
reduces Total-Cost-of-Ownership
- GigaVUE-MP
improves network operations
- GigaVUE-MP
allows "Pay as-you-Grow"
- A "tool farm" can easily be created by
"stacking" up to 16 boxes to access up to 320 links or
tools.
- GigaVUE-MP
is "Future Proof" -
Support migration to in-line tools; can reassign input ports to
support more tools and vice versa.
